Henry Gray (1829–61) was a nineteenth-century English surgeon and anatomist, best known for publishing the medical reference book, Gray's Anatomy.
Henry Vandyke Carter (1831–97) was an English surgeon, anatomist, and artist who is best known for creating the illustrations for the reference book Gray's Anatomy.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. R. Shane Tubbs is now a distinguished author, editor, and Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Surgery, and Structural & Cellular Biology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. His research in “reverse translational anatomy” has resulted in more than 2,000 peer-reviewed publications, and he has authored/edited more than 50 books, including the 41st and 42nd editions of Gray’s Anatomy, published by Elsevier. Most recently, he was named chair of the Federative International Programme on Anatomical Terminologies and President of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists.
