De detectiveroman Het Chineesche mysterie (1932) is geschreven door Jan Campert en Ben van Eysselsteijn. Indertijd werd het boek door literatuurkritiek positief ontvangen. Een criticus kwalificeerde de roman zelfs als `een der allerbeste Nederlandse thrillers‘. De Nederlander Jan Campert (1902 – 1943) was journalist, dichter, schrijver en verzetsman. Hij is vooral bekend van het gedicht Het lied der achttien dooden (1943), dat hij naar aanleiding van de executie van achttien verzetslieden in 1941 schreef. Naar hem is de poëzieprijs de Jan Campertprijs vernoemd.
