About this eBook

“I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard as I did reading this book. The humor was quick-witted and sharp... I didn’t want to put this book down.” —Reading Rebel

Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson is the fastest gun west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, he’s ready to hang up his hat. Sure, being notorious has its perks. But the nomadic lifestyle—and people always tryin’ to kill you—gets old real fast.

Now he just wants to find a place to retire so he can spend his days the way the good Lord intended: staring at the sunset and napping.

When his stubborn horse drags him into a hole-in-the-wall town called Desolation, something about the place calls to Gray, and he figures he might actually have a shot at a sleepy retirement.

His optimism lasts about a minute and a half.

Soon he finds himself embroiled in a town vendetta and married to a woman named Mercy. Who, judging by her aggravating personality, doesn’t know the meaning of her own name. In fact, she’s downright impossible. But dang it if his wife isn’t irresistible. If only she’d stop trying to steal his guns to go after the bad guys herself.

There goes his peace and quiet...

I liked this book but the heroine was a bit much. Overall, I found this book quite enjoyable. I thought the writing was well done and the story entertaining. I fell so hard for Gray. I found his story and his attitude very fun. I was not such a fan as far as Mercy went. Personally I found her grating and too often, annoying. Still, as part of the couple I felt the chemistry was good as was the banter. I am posting an unbiased, unsolicited review.

"Don't know why your ma named you Mercy, There ain't a merciful bone in your body." This was such fun. When I think of a western romance I usually picture gritty not lol fun This had it all It had the romance, the suspense, the gritty feel and it was all wrapped in a solid storyline I am not a history buff so I could not say if it was accurate or not but I was enjoying the characters too much to care either way Gray was ... think grumpy grizzly and cuddly koala (maybe panda?) I couldn't help but fall in love with his snarly backside. There is so much to his character and then there was Sunshine and Doc and Preacher and ... the supporting cast here was as entertaining as the main characters I do hope we get their stories Mercy, our heroine, and handful was that tomboy - you know the one who is so intent on proving they can do it alone? At times she comes across as almost gruff. But her softer side does shine through and she eventually wormed her way into my heart as well I think the author did such a bang-up job with these two The chemistry The snark The way their relationship evolved I am not sure if this is a first in series or not - I hope it is - this was a new author for me - I will definitely be reading more of her work

Hitched to the Gunslinger by Michelle McLean Not your usual historical old west romance, nope, this one has a tired wannabe retired gunslinger hero, a not so sweet very verbal heroine, and a small town more accepting than most…oh…and a bad guy to thwart. Romance is definitely in the air, but it comes in a rather unexpected way. What I liked: * Gray: a survivor, grumpy, sleepy, over forty, fast with a gun, orphaned early in life, looking for a place to retire, stumbles into an orchard near a town called Desperation…and…his life changed. * Mercy: tenacious, independent, hard worker, has built her orchard and farm on her own, sassy, no longer a spring chicken, owns the orchard Gray stumbled into…her statement in the orchard when Gray appeared changed both of their lives. * Birdie: an opinionated equine nag with a mind of her own * Sunshine: young, wants respect, follower of Gray, smiling most of the time, has potential and is coming into his own – nice guy. * The characters met that live in Desperation: The madam, preacher, doctor, Martha and perhaps a few more. There is potential for a series should the author decide to pursue it. * The banter and dialogue between Gray and Mercy – at first it didn’t grab me but as I settled into the story…I was hooked. * The softer/other sides of the H/h that came out over the story * Slowly getting to know the characters as the story progressed * The relationship that developed between Gray and Mercy – such fun! * The daisy tie-in and why it was so important * That the bad guys were thwarted * Pondering the future of the main and other characters in the book. What I didn’t like: *Josiah Banff: entitled, ruthless, evil, aggressive, no good, dirty scoundrel * I have to admit that at first I wasn’t sure this book was for me…labeled a rom-com it didn’t make me laugh….but further in I began to smile, enjoy, and care about the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the story. Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing-Amara for the ARC – This is my honest review 4 Stars
