'Homage to Catalonia' (1938), one of his lesser-known yet critically acclaimed works, offers a vivid firsthand account of his experiences fighting in the Spanish Civil War and a direct critique of Stalinism, which would serve as a precursor to his seminal dystopian novels, 'Animal Farm' (1945) and '1984' (1949).
