About this ebook

'Hope Jahren asks the central question of our time: how can we learn to live on a finite planet? The Story of More is thoughtful, informative and - above all - essential' Elizabeth Kolbert, author of The Sixth Extinction

Hope Jahren is an award-winning geobiologist, a brilliant writer, an inspiring teacher, and one of the seven billion people with whom we share this earth. In The Story of More, Jahren illuminates the link between human consumption habits and our imperiled planet. In short, highly readable chapters, she takes us through the science behind the key inventions - from electric power to large-scale farming and automobiles - that, even as they help us, release untenable amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. She explains the current and projected consequences of greenhouse gases - from superstorms to rising sea levels - and the actions that all of us can take to fight back.

At once an explainer on the mechanisms of warming and a lively, personal narrative given to us in Jahren's inimitable voice, The Story of More is the essential pocket primer on climate change that will leave an indelible impact on everyone who reads it.

A Must Read. Hope gives a good overview of all the aspects of human contributions to climate change over the years since the dawn of the industrial age. She gives the story a personal touch, relating it closely to her own life from 1969 to the present day. Showing how our lifestyle has changed drastically in these past fifty years: her own lifetime. The Story of More is beautifully written, with a style unseen in non-fiction writing. Relating the grave facts and data of climate change over the years to her own life, really driving home the fact that climate change is happening and actively changing our planet as we speak, due to our pursuit of more. Overall, a great read filled with information that was quite new to me. Such as modern intensive agriculture, role of trees in climate, our history of reliance on fossil fuels, to name a few. After reading this, I am quite inclined to read her previous book, Lab Girl. Will add that to my reading list.
