Delighted at first to be away from corrupt, sexist modern America, she quickly begins to realise that her new world is as complicated as her old one. Harry Turtledove (1949- )
Harry Turtledove was born in Los Angeles in 1949, and has a PhD in Byzantine history. He has taught ancient and medieval history at a number of universities including UCLA, and has published a translation of a ninth-century Byzantine chronicle, as well as several scholarly articles. A full-time science fiction writer since 1991, he is best known for his rigorously researched alternative history, such as the classic The Guns of the South, in which the Confederacy wins the American Civil War. Harry Turtledove is married to novelist Laura Frankos, and lives in Los Angeles.

Judith Tarr (1955- )
Judith Tarr is an American author best known for her fantasy books. She received a Bachelor's degree in Latin and English from Mount Holyoke College in 1976 and has a Master's degree in Classics from Cambridge University, along with a Master's and a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Yale University. She has published more than twenty widely praised novels including The Thrones of Isis, White Mare's Daughter and Queen of Swords. Tarr breeds Lipizzan horses at Dancing Horse Farm, her home in Vail, Arizona.
