Untersucht wird, wie und mit welchen Mitteln hier die öffentliche Kommunikation mit Passanten erfolgt, welche Arten von Zeichensystemen (Bild, Schild, Sprache) hierfür eingesetzt werden und wie sich diese Landschaften historisch ausgeprägt haben. Die Monografie wendet sich an Interessenten der Kulturlinguistik und Kultursemiotik, aber auch der Stadtsprachenforschung und Sprachlandschaftsforschung.
