Despite this being book 14 in the series, this is only my second Dark Protector's book, and wow does this one pack a punch. It starts right off dropping you into intense action, and just keeps going from there. So much happens during the course of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this action-filled, intense romance. Honor has no idea that she is an "enhanced female" or what that meant. She knew she was different but not the why or truly even the how of it. Sam and her cross paths and from there their futures become intertwined. Despite only having read one of this series before, I was easily able to follow along. I loved that even though I'm new to this world, and it is a complicated one, Rebecca Zanetti is so talented that you are able to pick right up with what is going on, what the world is about and not feel lost or overwhelmed. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, vampire romance, or even just a good romantic suspense, then this is definitely worth picking up and reading!

IMMORTAL’S HONOR is the fourteenth instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DARK PROTECTORS paranormal / fantasy romance series. This is vampire-demon hybrid Sam Kyllwood, and psychiatrist Honor McDovall’s story line. IMMORTAL’S HONOR can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order, or at the very least, this particular arc of the series focusing on the group of Seven beginning with book eight VAMPIRE’S FAITH, as there is a on-going premise throughout. SOME BACKGROUND: A thousand years earlier, a number of immortal warriors went through a ritual that, if they survived, hardened their bodies against attack, a ritual meant to create a group of Seven known as The Shield. The Shield was created to protect the world from an evil race of vampires known as the Kurjans, their sect group known as the Cysts, and ultimately a rogue warrior once considered a friend- Ulric-a male of immense power. To protect the human race, Ulric was captured, and along with two of the Seven, was encapsulated in one of three spheres for all eternity but the spheres are no longer capable of holding the ‘Seven’, and the warriors have returned to Earth. As the warriors search for the ‘Keys’ to perform the ritual, the ‘Lock’ must be protected in order to take down the evil that is hoping to take over the world. Told from a number of third person perspectives following several intersecting paths IMMORTAL’S HONOR follows the building romance and relationship between vampire-demon hybrid Sam Kyllwood, and psychiatrist Honor McDovall. Honor McDovall is done, having caught her boyfriend with someone else but Honor never expected to be rescued aka kidnapped by a man who claimed to be a demon vampire, and said demon vampire suspected Honor was his mate. Honor’s gift was powerful for an enhanced human female, and thusly made her a target of the Kurjan empire. Staying with the shifter Bear nation, Honor and Sam take their relationship to the next level but Honor continues to struggle with the idea of mating forever, a mating that could save her life in the wake of possible war with the Kurjan army. Meanwhile, eighteen year old, Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood has unknowingly played into the hands of the enemy. Hope’s nightly dream walking with her friends Paxton and Kurjan Drake has revealed betrayal at the deepest level. The relationship between Sam and Honor is one of immediate attraction. Sam believes Honor is his mate but for some reason the mating mark refuses to appear.Honor battles between head and heart knowing to commit to Sam means a commitment to forever but Honor’s powers continue to get stronger, a strength that will be needed when the Kurjans take aim. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble case of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Bear and his mate Nissa McDunphy, and several members of the Bear Shifter nation MC; dragon shifter Flynn; demon/vampire Garrett Kayrs; Hope Kayrs-Kyllwood, Paxton Phoenix, Vero and Drake; Ulric, and Jaydon. IMMORTAL’S HONOR is a story of power, betrayal, and vengeance; family, relationships, friendships and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is intriguing, engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are powerful, dynamic and determined.

I’ve loved every book in this series as well as the previous series but this one is at the top of my list for rereading. I loved Honor’s determination to not be “kidnapped”. She gave Sam quite a run, literally at times. Her ability to adjust to such wild, incredible circumstances was all a part of who she was. The talent she carried within was incredible and I’m excited how it will further play out far into the future when the end is near. Sam was an awesome hero! His fall into love wasn’t instant, although his desire for Honor certainly was. I loved watching him deny his feelings and the mate issue until he couldn’t contain it any more. His problem at that point onwards was interesting and I couldn’t wait to see how it would resolve itself. The relationship between Sam and Honor was constantly evolving. I loved their interactions from the beginning until the end. Amidst the danger and drama, they had some intense chemistry as well as bursts of humor, some of it thanks to those crazy bear shifter’s feelings and antidotes to help Sam with his problem. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much during this series. Definitely my favorite and while I feel you do need to read the previous books, from someone who hates series, I highly recommend it!
