A magical sci-fi story in the vein of something like Strike the Blood or Magical Index/Scientific Railgun, this first volume is quite interesting, fun and Very sexy. (in fact, if you want the "full experience" of the sex scenes, you should definitely check out the audiobook; the female narrator is incredibly talented in that regard;) The characters are interesting and funny and the story is compelling with just enough twists and turns to want to read more. If I had to offer one minor complaint, occasionally, some of the magic systems and lore are either given too much explanation or repeated explanation. Excellent first volume; can't wait to read more.

It’s easy to see the influence of the classic tropes in this starter volume introducing to the world, I would say with the clearest connection being Strike the Blood, in a good way (other than No little sister characters! The horror! ;)) What will be interesting to see as the series develops, And seriously comes into its own. There’s a lot of potential to build on here, and seeing some of Brandon’s other series, there’s a good chance it’ll turn into something special.

this was everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the world that was built in this story. The characters had that element that I was hoping for and worked in this universe. Brandon Varnell wrote this well and am excited to read more. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
