About this ebook

We started our new national campaign „Beware, police!" because: During 2006-2011 women who are actively involved in Belarusian politics were subjected to various types of violence executed by the authorities enforcers. The violence was especially high during Presidential election campaigns (early 2006, late 2010). However, common are cases of violence against women in time periods other than elections. The most popular types of violence are unsubstantiated detentions and arrests, and huge fines. Also present are politically motivated dismissals from job, school, and university. Another very common type of political repressions against women is exercising pressure on their relatives and threats in relation to the children. Unfortunately, there are also methods of utmost barbarity, like driving to suicide and depriving medical assistance.
