What Is Christmas? — In this story, the Little Llama goes halfway around the world to learn more about Christmas. It certainly means different things to the different animals she meets. While the author didn’t include (or even touch on) the religious meaning of Christmas, she hit other high notes about what makes Christmas so special. The illustrations are mostly soft watercolor. The author appears to be British, so my American friends will see “jumper” for sweater and “baubles” for ornaments. All in all, a cute story about what Christmas can mean for different people. — I received a free copy of this children's book, but that did not affect my review.

Lila the little llama heard about a thing called Christmas. She goes to the north to find out what Christmas is all about. She meets new friends and they give her ideas. The illustrations are beautifully done, cute and very appealing for children. The storyline and language is appropriate for the target group. The ideas of friendship, love and relationships were heart warming. The feelings of Christmas were nicely added to the storyline. It is a non religious book so be aware it does not tell about the birth of Christ. This is for book for everyone who enjoys the spirit that the holiday is about. It is a charming children’s book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

As a preschool teacher, I have read many picture books to young children over the span of my teaching career. I am always looking for more books that I can share with the children in my life and was excited to hear about this christmas book. I loved the illustrations - they are fun, vibrant and fully inviting for the target audience. The characters were cute as well and could be relatable to the children and their previous experiences. I just wish that the focus of the story wasn't solely on the presents and candy, but more about spending the time with loved ones and how important it is to be kind to each other. I didn't mind that there wasn't any mention of religion, as not everyone has the same philosophy over the holiday period, making this book a good choice for anyone that wishes to include their own family traditions into the book.
