About this ebook

A retired colleague's suspicious death puts Lt. Eve Dallas on the case in Payback in Death, the electrifying new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.

Lt. Eve Dallas is just home from a long overdue vacation when she responds to a call of an unattended death. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, retired Internal Affairs Captain. At first glance, the scene appears to be suicide, but the closer Eve examines the body, the more suspicious she becomes.

An unlocked open window, a loving wife and family, a too-perfect suicide note—Eve's gut says it's a homicide. After all, Greenleaf put a lot of dirty cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. It could very well be payback—and she will not rest until the case is closed.

Totally 💖 the series and yes some I have really liked more than others but I have enjoyed them all...Someone left a comment about keeping politics out of the book however anytime you are dealing with a major organization of any kind especially a large diverse police force you will have politics..I think maybe she didn't appreciate the side the politics leaned more towards that's very different than saying it doesn't belong in a book because like it or not unfortunately we are all living through it & until we all stop picking sides and just scream ENOUGH we are going to be suffering from it for a long time😢 Politics or not I'M IN LOVE WITH ROARK YES EVE TOO💖

Of the entire series thus far, this storyline was proven to be the worst I've read. It was littered with typos (shame on you, proofer!) and the plot was predictable. I knew who the killer was 1/3 of the way through the book. I also did not care for the side quest of Detective Lansing; however, I am of the opinion that's a setup for a coming book. Overall, I only stuck with it because I'm waiting for the day Dallas turns up pregnant.

What a great read. It really kept me guessing, trying to figure out who the killer was. It also kept me turning pages. About 3/4's of the way through, I started thinking it was one of the good guys in the story, but I couldn't figure out why he would do it. Maybe he had some hidden anger? I was wrong! The back story of the killer is finally found out, and Eve Dallas does her job! Suzie
