I'd actually forgotten how good this 'In Death' series is as I haven't read/listened to one in a while, but I'll definitely be amending this now as I'm only on No.4 and there's 47 - so far! I'm a big Nora Roberts fan anyway, but the J D Robb books are just another string to her bow and different from her other books as they're set in the future. The characters are so good, Eve and Roarke are the main ones of course and just complement each other perfectly. Eve is very independent and has a hard shell because of her (very hard) life when she was young, and of course being a cop, but Roarke (charming, Irish, extremely rich) softens her edges. All the tech stuff is fascinating to me, as I love new technology, but it's not so far out that you feel it's a science fiction book. It's definitely a murder/suspense sort of book, but with amusing moments between the characters too which lighten the subject matter. I love Eve's sidekick, Peabody. She is a really likeable, amusing character and their partnership works so well. This time Eve is just back from her honeymoon with Roarke and her first case back is about suicide/murders. They were staged to be suicides, but she doesn't entirely believe it, and so starts investigating further. It's amazing that this book was published in 2006, as it certainly doesn't have the feel of a 12 year old book, as some older books do when you read them, but I suppose as it's set in the future it misses that feeling. I have to say the narrating is top notch too, absolutely perfect, and 'makes' the story. Really engrossing book with lots going on and never, ever boring. I look forward to reading the rest of this series, now it's back on my radar!
