About this ebook

Born in poverty in India, Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986) became a leading spiritual and philosophical thinker whose ideas continue to influence us today. George Bernard Shaw declared that he was the most beautiful human being he had ever seen and Aldous Huxley was one of his close friends. Whether debating politics with Nehru, discussing theories with Rupert Sheldrake and Iris Murdoch, or challenging his students not to take his words at face value, Krishnamurti engaged fully with every aspect of life. He is regarded by many modern religious figures as a great teacher, an extraordinary individual with revolutionary insights; Joseph Campbell, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra are all indebted to his writings.

Freedom from the Known is one of Krishnamurti's most accessible works. Here, he reveals how we can free ourselves radically and immediately from the tyranny of the expected. By changing ourselves, we can alter the structure of society and our relationships. The vital need for change and the recognition of its very possibility form an essential part of this important book's message.

I'm not from Goodreads - as far as I know - at this point in time etc etc. I'm in such existential doubt when it comes to the web. Anyways, the book is an excellent book. Readers of Krishnamurti who will have most difficulty are those who come looking for prepackaged answers. This is not what Krishnamurti was ever about. He does not take you on 'the path' he allows you to find 'your' path. In his own words he said that the truth is a pathless land. His mission was never to clear up your uncertainties and confusions, fears and doubts. He doesn't show you how to play the instrument of life, but he would allow you to discover the instrument and master it for yourself. It's not the way of the 'West', or even the East, always looking for some prepackaged, well researched, tried and tested formula for success. If you're looking for self-discovery and self-exploration read the book. If you're looking for 'answers' look elsewhere; don't waste your money.

A book of golden category! What a clarity of definition and explanation he gives on Consciousness, Mind, Thought, Time, Sorrow, Anger, Violence, Relationship, Pleasure, Love, Self-pity, he seems better than Carl Jung and Freud. After Eckhart Tolle's suggestion I read this book. By saying Self-enquiry is your teacher say he finally, it appears he aligns with Sri Ramana Maharshi someway. The book can guide you to go through a process of dying to everything you know, in which if a psychological death is intensely felt, you may be purified of those rotten things that conditioned your brain. However, I don't understand why he tried to hide his frontal bald-head by tuft of hairs drawn from rear side, and his relationship with a woman of his friend as described by Radha Rajagopal Sloss in her book Lives in the Shadow with J.Krishnamurti. Her book prevented me from reaching JK's good teachings for long until Eckhart Tolle intervened to suggest reading this Freedom from Known in his Television shows.
