About this ebook

First ever illustrated eBook of the classic bestseller featuring more than 60 colour paintings and pencil drawings by the award-winning artist, Alan Lee, Conceptual Designer on Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon...

The prelude to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the twentieth century.

This new eBook edition is illustrated throughout in gorgeous watercolour and delicate pencil by Alan Lee, the Oscar-winning Conceptual Designer on Peter Jackson’s films, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY and THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN.

It is only available to read online. Would be much nicer if you didnt have to use google play to read it every time and were able to download it to your phone.

I love the books the hobbit and the Lord of the rings, but I hate how the movies have taken over and every novel has an illustration of the movie. This is the cover to the book I read in grade 8, 23 years ago, and I have a copy of the original hobbit and LOTR, well as original as I could get without spending thousands :) . Great book to start and get young readers interested in reading as well as a nostalgic read for those who read it years ago.

I watched the movies before reading this book. It was interesting to see how many extras they had to add to the movies to drag three movies out of this book. I personally prefer this book to the movies. It has much more depth and a real world "feel" about it. I love The Lord of the Rings series of movies but I thought that The Hobbit wasn't quite on the same level. I understand why now after reading the book.
