great worthwhile read. loved the characters and descriptions of places which are all familiar to me.The use of the archer was both Scottish and English but not so noted in your novel by the Scott's. Though I realize the landers and knights where more favored during David's reign.

Author Tomlin has created an intriguing historical tale told from the first-person perspective of Archibald Douglas as he matures from an idealistic boy to a battle-hardened young man who becomes disheartened by the political machinations of noblemen pledged to fight for the king. Vibrant descriptions of historical events ring true. The final chapters vividly describe the gut-wrenching horror of battle at Neville's Cross where Archibald fiercely fights to protect his king
