About this ebook

They can run, but they can't hide. Also, they can't run.

A routine resupply stop takes a terrifying turn when the crew of the Arete realize they're unable to access astral space. Now, intelligence services across the galaxy are realizing that the advanced haathee vessel is trapped in realspace and unable to flee. Now, Captain Jessie Ramsey has to play the less enviable role in a game of cat and mouse. Her ship is tough, great in a fight, but there's only so much she can handle at once.

Meanwhile, the crew scrambles to find a way to repair the star-drive. They have limited materials on hand, a damaged example unit that was jury-rigged to begin with, and no one who knows exactly how one is supposed to work. Hunting pirates was supposed to earn them goodwill, but it's hard to recruit when you're being pursued by Martian warships and a band of pirates who desperately want something you stole from them.

All in a day's work for an outlaw starship captain.

Morin has a knack for keeping stories fresh and moving. Raising the stakes in a believable manner is tricky for most writers, and even for a sci-fi/fantasy with wizards and spaceships he has managed to make it feel real. There are threads established in the first few books that find connections even in mission (book) 6 (which is good), and those threads now have even more to draw us in and wind us up (which is great.) I often wonder how there can be 10-16 books, and looking at this story was wondering how 4-10 more might come out of this, but it would take that many to fill in the story adequately. Morin is the guy to do it!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was almost going to say this Black Ocean tangent was getting tedious, then it wasn’t. Morin pulls out another one! My criticism is aimed at this general offshoot from the previously established direction of the Black Ocean series, namely, it was kind of abrupt to find myself in the future with the presumed dead Jessie Ramsey with no explanation; of course we all knew she was ok, but still….SOME explanation would be in order. Maybe there’s another sub series in the works

Things are starting to come together and the stage is being set for some true Ramsey fun. No doubt, that means plenty of trouble is one the way. Lots of new characters and I expect some potentially interesting interactionss as a result. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
