If you believe in zombies, moaners, the undead, you can believe they have always been with us. Brant's setting of the American West makes it rather unique. The protagonists are somewhat typically Brant; a tough heroine who doesn't immediately faint at the sight of blood, and the hero who isn't exactly what he seems at first. This is all wrapped up in quick, easy style devoid of extraneous material which moves the reader along and clearly leads to some eventual confrontations between heroes and villains and perhaps happily between heroine and hero.

Book is pretty good, but the guns used either did not exist during the time period and/or there are errors in the guns function. For instance, the main character has a peacemaker and at one point, he pops open the cylinder. Anyone who knows the most minimal amount about firearms knows that a peacemaker doesn't have a swing out cylinder.

Ooh, this one gave me shivers! I love these feisty female characters Jason Brant seems to excel at writing. This book jumps quickly into the main plot theme and keeps up a fast pace from there, never lagging. I read this one through in one night and never once felt like putting it down or skipping ahead. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.

About the author

Jason Brant is the author of thrillers and horror novels. His works include The Hunger series, The Gate, The Dark, the West of Hell series, and multiple novellas and short stories.

A job led him from the mountains of western Pennsylvania to the outskirts of Baltimore, Maryland. For a little over half a decade, he held the position of Digital Forensics Analyst for the Department of Defense. He escaped that post to write novels, watch movies, and drink microbrews.
