About the author

Jean de La Fontaine est né à Château-Thierry en 1621. Il passe toute son enfance dans cette province rurale et champêtre qui - dit-on - inspirera son oeuvre. Après avoir été avocat, il s'installe à Paris, fréquente les salons littéraires et décide de se consacrer à la littérature. En 1668, il écrit ses premières fables qui connaissent un succès immédiat. Les dernières seront publiées en 1694, un an avant sa mort.
