Born in Queens, New York, where his father drummed for Spike Jones’ “City Slickers”, Jeff was involved in New York City’s “Street Musician” scene of the early 1970’s with the likes of David Peel, whose associates then included Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Jeff has recorded and toured with David Peel’s “Lower East Side Band” in the past, and helped expand music standards composing and performing with the ‘70’s turn-of-the-decade rock pioneers “Rich Rags”. Jeff’s offbeat syncopated drumming style was, and still is a trademark in new sound development.
Jeff and David met at a “happening” in the early 1970’s, and a long lasting personal and artistic relationship developed.
Since that meeting, many recording sessions and performances have taken place.
The “Lower East Side” band did spend a brief moment in history with former Beatle John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono.
John and Yoko required a vehicle for voicing their uproar and Peel, who was already part of the street - underground scene, seemed an appropriate choice during this high pressured time in their lives. (see “The U.S. vs. John Lennon”).
As well as “The Pope Smokes Dope”, in 1972, John & Yoko also produced the wonderful “Elephants Memory” lp (on which Lennon, Ono and Peel guest star), and his and Yoko’s “Some Time In New York City” albums for Apple.
