About this ebook

Jeffrey B. Burton's The Keepers is the next installment of the Mace Reid K-9 series, featuring golden retriever cadaver dog Vira and her handler, Mason Reid.

Mason “Mace” Reid lives on the outskirts of Chicago and specializes in human remains detection—that is, he trains dogs to hunt for dead bodies. He calls his pack of cadaver dogs The Finders, and his prize pupil is a golden retriever named Vira.

When Mace Reid and Vira are called in to search Washington Park at three o'clock in the morning, what they find has them running for their very lives. The trail of murder and mayhem Mace and CPD Officer Kippy Gimm have been following leads them to uncover treachery and corruption at the highest level, and their discoveries do not bode well for them . . . nor for the Windy City itself.

The Keepers is an exciting, fast-paced mystery filled with courageous dogs you'll want to root for.

Book 2 in the series and can be read as a stand a lone. I enjoyed this book and am definitely looking forward to book 3, Hoping there is a book 3. This one seemed a tad more in depth, and wild convoluted trail that slowed things down. Anytime Mace, Kippy, Wabs and Vera were on the pages I was thrilled, It wasn't enough for me. There are several heart wrenching moments, several made me reach for the kleenex. It also had a few, smile, moments, I was like dang, way to go Kippy. If you love dogs, mystery, suspense this is the book for you. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Mace, along with one of his cadaver dogs, Vira, is called to Washington Park to search for a body. What they uncover has Mace, his pups, and Officer Gimm running as if their lives depend on it…and actually it does. Although this is book two in the Mace Reid K9 Mystery series, this is my first by this author. This story has a great cast of characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. I felt the characters were realistic and their reactions were closer to how someone might react in their situation. It was refreshing to read. The beginning did feel a bit “all over the place” but a few chapters in and I couldn’t put the book down. I will be checking out Mr. Burton’s other books and am eager to find out how this story actually began!

'R' Rated -Working Dog- Political Corruption-Action This book will keep you on your toes! It is pretty much non-stop action. There are murders, corruption on several levels, and dogs doing their number one job. It is a bit grizzly in parts, putting it firmly in the R rating category, but there is very little bad language and nothing more than an onscreen kiss. It is difficult to say anything about the story without spoiling the plot. So, I'll just say that if you love dogs, you will love this book. Anyone who appreciates working dogs would love to take any of these babies home! I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
