Three years ago a meteor strike unleashed supernaturals on the world. I went from being an astronomy major to a vampire babysitter overnight. And even though my best friend, Zeke, had been with me, nothing else was ever the same again.

Three years on, and we’ve worked out a rhythm. I do odd jobs in exchange for simple spells and protections from witches, and Zeke works on gaining control of his fledgling vampire hunger pangs. But finding legal blood for Zeke is getting difficult in a city growing more dangerous by the day.

I have one shot: The Nova Guild. Bounty hunters for hire who helped make New York City safe—or as safe as it can be with necromantic attacks on the rise. Every year the guild hosts a Bounty Day to qualify new recruits. If I pass, I’ll become one of their rank and gain access to a relatively steady income and bounty jobs on vampires that would allow me access to their blood stores. If I fail… I’ll likely be dead.

It’s a risk. But these days, so is living. I’ve got one shot to create a better life for Zeke and I. I have to take it.

What I don’t expect is to walk out of Bounty Day owing a debt to the Nova Guild. And, unlucky for me, owing debts in this new world is dangerous business.
