About this ebook

First in the New York Times-bestselling mystery series: “A cleverly plotted cozy full of appealing characters and delicious cookie recipes.”—Publishers Weekly

Take one amateur sleuth. Mix in some eccentric Minnesota locals. Add a generous dollop of crackling suspense, and you've got the recipe for this mystery series featuring Hannah Swensen, the red-haired, cookie-baking heroine whose gingersnaps are almost as tart as her comments and whose penchant for solving crime is definitely stirring things up.

While dodging her mother’s attempts to marry her off, Hannah runs The Cookie Jar, Lake Eden’s most popular bakery. But after Ron LaSalle, the beloved deliveryman from the Cozy Cow Dairy, is found murdered behind her bakery—with Hannah’s famous Chocolate Chip Crunchies scattered around him—she’s determined not to let her cookies get a bad reputation, so she sets out to track down a killer. But if she doesn’t watch her back, Hannah’s sweet life may get burned to a crisp.

“Culinary cozies don’t get any tastier than this winning series.”—Library Journal

My mom has owned this series for a long time. I'm not even sure where she got them. I just know that when I went to visit her, I saw them on her bookshelves. Fast forward some years and somebody important to me got this book as a Christmas gift by somebody important to them. The person has read this series and loved it. I finally caved and got the series in audiobook. I'm so glad that I did. I love a good cozy mystery. (More on blog: Star's Books & Tea)

Thank goodness this cookie baker is a better sleuth than her detective brother-in-law! Lake Eden residents can sleep better at night! Enjoyed the extra story about Candy and the generous sprinkling of recipes. Found it unique that each calls for the butter to be melted and combined with sugars then cooled instead of creamed together, and salt and baking soda added to wet ingredients not mixed in the flour, then each recipe calls for refrigeration 2-24 hours. I love the quicker methods of mixing up a batch of dough!

I love the Hallmark movies based upon these books, so wasn't sure how I would feel about this book. Turns out while the books differ from the movies in many ways they are still very engaging. Nice character development and thoughtful plots, like some of the storylines in the book sdcc better than the movies.
