I hate to say this. But I couldn't finish it. I have put it down this morning. 50% I had been waiting for it to 'grip me' and its failed. If you like description of benign legal procedures in the sticks in the US, it might be for you. I know I shouldn't be reviewing really not reading the entire book, I believe something might happen with a odd fellow she meets early on in the story. But the book has bored me too much before getting there. Failure to launch comes to mind after reading this... sorry Grisham. I read A Painted House of his a few years back, was much much better in my opinion.

The beginning was great and I was hooked. It had potential but then slowly by slowly it became a bit entrenched and preachy. Yes I get the point that strip mining is bad, but it doesn't need repeating in every chapter. It just turned boring half way and I never even bothered finishing it. Can't be bothered.

As always, Grisham has provided a rollicking page-turner and is so easy to read. And he deserves a lot of praise for bringing the plight of these people to the attention of the world. However, I will give him a pause for a while, until he finds out how to write endings. Disappointment on repeat...
