Born in the Midlands in the mid-1930s but brought up in the South of England, the author discovered at the age of 43 that he was adopted at birth. He decided to search for his natural parents and applied to the various adoption agencies to explore records of the 1930s. This eventually led to an entirely new family with a 700-year-old history and opened up a completely new life, causing a range of emotions. His early studies of architecture and civil engineering led to a qualification in chartered engineering, allowing a broad and interesting career in the design and management of multimillion-pound projects in the United Kingdom, through to his retirement in 2001. He has been a keen sportsman all his life. He plays the piano, is passionate about a wide range of music, and is a member of many organisations, including the National Trust, and supports many other local groups involved in the history and preservation of our heritage.
