The conclusions drawn and the emphasis made in different parts of the book make it clear this book was written from the perspective of a Hillary supporter; nevermind the fact they say so outright in the beginning of the book. Given the terrible things described within and the anvilicious attempts to humanize Mrs. Clinton at every turn, it's a hard sell to buy into the idea that the authors actually believed Mrs. Clinton was at fault for the loss of he campaign. It's also amusingly hypocritical that they would decry supposed Russian meddling as being more important than the contents of the wikileaks emails, but then would turn around and charge money for a book that hinged on exposing the contents of the campaign Mrs. Clinton ran. And all that supposes we accept as fact the contents of the book itself, which is for me in and of itself a hard sell given the fawning prose. In all, I enjoyed the book; wether fact or fiction it was interesting to read, if a bit dry at times.

I didn't want another Hillary-bashing book. I didn't want a pro-Trump book. I didn't want "an experts" opinion of why the campaign failed. Thankfully, I didn't get any of that. What I got was first-hand account of the fascinating dynamic between all the players of a maniac campaign. Shattered was a thoughtful, neutral examination of the national political campaign. Regardless of the candidate, I've always been fascinated by how they organize and manage their campaign. The sheer infrastructure and logistics of it all is hard to comprehend. This book does a wonderful job detailing those layers and distribution (or lack there of) of resources. The pace of the book was perfect. There are so many moving pieces and so many pivotal moments. As you look back, it's hard to believe this was real life. Surely this was a scripted! But, sadly, no. This all unfolded throughout our presidential campaign. Shattered does a wonderful job taking you back to those moments and giving you perspective. The toughest part was wading through all the names, understanding their role and their ultimate level of involvement. There are so many players thrown at you quickly. At first, as a reader, it's frustrating. As you work your way through Shattered, you begin to understand you're experiencing only a fraction of the frustration felt by those very individuals. You don't understand their role? They didn't understand their role. Shattered works because it doesn't work to tell the story. It simply gives a voice and context to what turned out to be a dysfunctional campaign.

The book reveals: Sanders Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver agreed with a deal (colluded) with the Clinton campaign to hide or minimize Sanders' delegates away from television cameras to hide the divisions and protests in the party from news audiences.
