En 1881, Conrad embarque comme premier lieutenant sur la Judée, un vieux trois-mâts barque en partance pour Bangkok. Le feu s'étant déclaré dans la cargaison de charbon, le navire est abandonné au large de Singapour. About the author
Joseph Conrad est le nom de plume de Teodor Józef Konrad Korzeniowski, écrivain anglais d'origine polonaise, né en Ukraine en 1857, et mort en Angleterre en 1924. Orphelin à 11 ans, Conrad s'enrôla comme mousse en 1874 et sera marin jusqu'en 1894. Il se consacra ensuite à l'écriture.
