About this ebook

“Homer’s “Iliad” is the basis of [this] story [which] convincingly translates the drama of the ancient world into high school society and small town life.” —Los Angeles Times

How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder.

Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

“A gorgeous, haunting saga.” — Lauren Kate, New York Times–bestselling author of Fallen

“The riveting plot twists and turns as the myth’s destiny translates into present-day terrors, dreams, and hopelessness, and its execution is seamless. —Booklist

“One of the most cinematic books I've ever read. Dramatic and intense!” —Sophie Jordan, New York Times–bestselling author of Firelight

“A refreshingly strong heroine.” —Kirkus Reviews

I absolutely loved this book when I read the ARC back in February. I can;t wait until I can get my hands on its next installment next year. Helen and Lucas' love story captured my imagination and wouldn't let go.

If you like fantasy and mythology this book is great! The story of Helen coming into her own as a teenager, unsure of herself, until she meets another like her, and then a whole family, well it was quite a treat! Can't wait for next book.

So about half way through this book goes from really bad (like really bad) to really good. Not only does the story pick up, but her writing style seems to improve, like she went from a novel writer wanna bee to something a little more tolerable.
