About this eBook

Judith and her warrior sisters had been around for several millennia, their time of fighting in wars and conquering kingdoms now a distant memory. Before Queen Dante passed, she graced her prized warriors—the falcon, hawk, eagle, phoenix, vulture, and owl—with humanity as well as immortality.

With two of their sisters mated, Jude and Piper were finding themselves a little envious of the large homes they had. Jude and Piper both were on the hunt for nicer accommodations. Christmas was just around the corner, and neither was sure if they wanted to attend the big gala that had been arranged this year in the old castle where they had all once lived.

Duncan was his mother’s son, thru and thru. He had inherited the gift of foresight as well as immortality and a few other magical traits. Jude being his mate, had been foreseen by his mother, Queen Dante, several millennia ago, and Queen Dante had kept Duncan’s identity a secret from them all.

When Duncan approached her, Jude didn’t know whether to stay put or flee. Being a warrior, she wasn’t afraid of any man, it’s what being with him represented, being a queen, Jude wasn’t sure she was ready for that. She wasn’t sure she would ever be ready for that.

What I liked most about this book was its uniqueness. The prologue was on the long side, but as this is the first book in the series that I have read, I found it quite well-written and illuminating. I really liked the premise and storyline. You get a bit of a dark fairy tale vibe, a royal romance vibe, along with a tale of magic. No spoilers, but the origin story of these bird shifters is simply amazing! Duncan and Judith, though, really bring this story to life. Duncan is so open and loving, so devoted to his people and his long deceased mother. Judith, despite all the power she houses, is not sure she wants or can handle the power that comes with being with Duncan. But these two are mates, so work it out they must! A very interesting and intriguing story, great for all PNR fans! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of this book and I'm so thrilled to have done so. "Judith" is the third book in the "Queen's Birds of Prey" series by Kathi S. Barton. To be perfectly honest, I started reading the prologue and the entire premise grabbed hold and I was completely enchanted by the entire book. (I'm going to have to backtrack and read book one, Mercy and book two, Blaze as soon as I finish this review. In the meantime, let me tell you a little about what to expect. A magical queen who gave her all to protect her castle, her people, her village, and most of all, her parents and son. Having the gift of foresight, she could see what was coming and laid out very dramatic and specific plans that would need to be put in place more than a millennium from when they were first designed. Her son, Duncan, and her parents have been in hiding their entire life in order to keep them protected. Jude, aka Judith the eagle, was to be Duncan's mate. The chemistry between these two absolutely warmed my heart. The love, devotion, and loyalty of family, whether by blood or choice, was what every person known to man hopes for. Having read this one out of order, I know for a fact I have to read the rest of this series. It's outstanding.
