This novel has it all! No boring book of nothing but looking, wishing, and simmering. The reader is never bored, but turning the page just to keep reading. This novel sets the bar for how a historical romance should be written.

From the dramatic and suspenseful opening of this story, the writer crafts a well written historical romance. Caught in a difficult situation, Anne Davis takes the offer of a marriage of convenience made by Michael O'Ryan. Set in an era where law and order are still being developed, Anne and her family face dangers both from outside and within the family. Betrayal comes from an unexpected source, but ultimately unconditional support also comes from surprising quarters. I personally found the violence in the book a bit unnerving, however it formed part of the context of the plot and the main characters more than made up for any squeamishness I may have had. The story is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
