Bought this as part of a bundle. It keeps very strictly to a formula which isn't what makes this book bad. It's that there is not a speck of originality injected into that formula. I wanted to chuck this book across the room when only a few chapters in the author had wasted pages of words congratulating the protagonist on her trim figure (but she eats like a horse of course!) with all of the other female characters that cross her path lamenting how fat and unattractive they are by comparison. This might have been more bearable if more words had been used to paint any sense of a personality for our protagonist but alas, her character is as deep as a muddy puddle (not the kind you want to splash in).

Lucky me, it was my third-time at-bat and hitting another home run with a delightfully amusing Jules Wake book and I finished up even more enamored with her clever wordplay. I am gradually working my way through the dozen books noted on her Goodreads listing, with the remaining nine proudly residing on my TBR. I adore her witty tales and spunky characters - they beguile and engage me while craftily squeezing my heart. In addition to a satisfying and entertaining read, Ms. Wake has also provided two fun additions to my Brit Words and Phrases list with shufty – a quick look; and grockle – a derogatory term for tourist, I plan to get a lot of mileage out of both.

Boring. The book read like an older-woman-trying-to-convey-a-young-woman. And the writer likes-to-join-alot, its annoying. If Sam had a secret drink or anger problem if could have had a great twist. The love-bombing and awesome chemistry (Spark!) between the two protagonists could have set the scene for a juicy relationship turned sour. Perhaps romance fiction isn't for me.

About the author

Jules Wake is the internationally bestselling author of over ten books including The Saturday Morning Park Run. She also writes as Julie Caplin and her Romantic Escapes series has hit the bestseller charts around the world.

After reading English at the University of East Anglia, Jules Wake worked in PR where she honed her fiction writing skills on press releases. She’s now a full-time author and what better job is there than making stuff up! It certainly beats housework.
