गेल्या अर्धशतकापासून शान्ताबाई काव्यलेखन करीत आहेत. इतर अनेक साहित्यप्रकार त्यांनी आतापर्यंत हाताळले असले, तरी आत्मनिष्ठ कविता हीच त्यांची सर्वांत आवडीची निर्मिती राहिली आहे.‘किनारे मनाचे’ हा शान्ताबार्इंच्या दीर्घकालीन काव्यप्रवासाचा चिकित्सकपणे आणि सहृदयतेने वेध घेणारा त्यांच्या निवडक कवितांचा संग्रह आहे. सुप्रसिद्ध कवयित्री आणि नामवंत समीक्षिका डॉ. प्रभा गणोरकर यांनी शान्ताबार्इंच्या कवितेचा विकासक्रम इथे मार्मिकपणे उलगडून दाखवला आहे. तिचा आशय, आविष्कार, भाषेचे पोत, तिच्या मर्यादा आणि तिची शक्ती, त्याबरोबर समकालीन कवितेच्या संदर्भात तिचे असलेले नेमके स्थान या सर्व गोष्टींचा अत्यंत अभ्यासपूर्ण, मूलभूत आणि स्वतंत्र विचार डॉ. गणोरकर यांनी आपल्या विस्तृत प्रास्ताविकात केलेला आढळेल. एका ज्येष्ठ कवयित्रीच्या या निवडक कविता आणि तिच्या सर्व काव्यलेखनाची ही सर्वांगीण समीक्षा काव्यरसिकांना आणि विशेषत: साहित्याच्या अभ्यासकांना उद्बोधक वाटेल.

Shantabai is jotting down her thoughts in a very rhythmic style and expressing herself stanzas after stanzas since last 50 years. She has not stuck to the form of poetry only but has tried her hands successfully on other forms of literature; yet poetry is the area which is like her breath, her heart beats more rhythmically here. This collection of her poetry is compiled of her most exclusive poems. It was very difficult to make a selection from all her poetries, each beautiful and perfect in its own way. The famous poetess Dr. Prabha Ganorkar has critically viewed her poems and taken a review of progress on the path of poetry. Dr. Ganorkar has very elaborately studied and meticulously diagnosed the poetry, its meaning, its manifestation, its plus points, its minus points, and its position in comparison with its contemporary poems. This will help the readers in understanding the poem in a better way and it will also help the scholars who are studying the literature in details.
