Søren bor ude på landet, men går i skole inde i byen. I skolen bliver Søren drillet af Ib, fordi han bor så langt væk fra byen. Men så får Sørens far en god idé: Søren kan da bare invitere Ib med ud til gården, så kan han selv se, hvor rart der er. Per Gammelgaard (f. 1948) blev uddannet bibliotekar i 1973 og har siden da skrevet en række digtsamlinger. I 1981 debuterede han som romanforfatter med "Er du hjemme, Johanne?"
