In Kirchen stehen und liegen oft Grabsteine; Epitaphe stehen oder hängen an den Wänden. Der Kirchenbesucher läuft meist an ihnen vorüber. Schaut er sie an, sind für ihn In- und Aufschriften nur schwer zu entziffern, Embleme und Ikonographien unverständlich und die Inhalte der Wappen rätselhaft. Zwar wirken sie so oft geheimnisvoll auf den Kirchenbesucher, aber sie bleiben doch eher ein Rätsel. Im vorliegenden Band werden Grabsteine und Epitaphe der Martin Luther Kirche Markkleeberg (ehemals Gautzsch) möglichst »ganzheitlich« erfasst: Denkmalinhaber, Materialität, Beschaffenheit, In- und Aufschriften sind aufgenommen und ausgewertet, heraldische Zeichen beschrieben und genealogisch aufbereitet. Die Erinnerungsmale werden so zum Sprechen gebracht. Genealogische Stammtafeln unterstützen dies. Hinzu kommt die Darstellung der ältesten Urkunde zur Kirche zu Gautzsch, eine Geschichte der Glocken, eine Beschreibung der vasa sacra der Kirche sowie Prosopographien der Pfarrer und der Patronatsangehörigen. When he looks at them, the inscriptions are difficult for him to decipher, emblems and iconographies are incomprehensible and the contents of the coats of arms are mysterious and remain a riddle. In the present volume tombstones and epitaphs of the Martin Luther Church Markkleeberg (formerly Gautzsch) are recorded as »holistically« as possible: Monument owners, materiality, condition, inscriptions are recorded and evaluated, heraldic signs described and genealogically analyzed. This is supplemented by the presentation of the oldest document on the church at Gautzsch, a history of the bells, a description of the vasa sacra of the church as well as prosopographies of the pastors and the patronage members.
About the author
Karl Heinrich von Stülpnagel, Jahrgang 1960, absolvierte eine Tischlerlehre und machte eine Ausbildung zum Restaurator für Möbel und Holzobjekte. Nach Jahren in der Forschung zu mittelalterlichen Truhen ist er seit 1992 werkstattleitender Restaurator des Ägyptischen Museums Georg Steindorff der Universität Leipzig. Darüber hinaus ist er in Lehre und Forschung im Bereich Heraldik und Genealogie tätig und arbeitet zu museologischen Themen.
