Well, in my review of book one of Kathi S. Barton's "Tate's Crossing" series I said there needed to be more depth and emotion. That indeed increased in 'Layton', the second book in the series. If you've read the blurb then you know the Tates needed an additional attorney to handle some of the projects they had going since they were swamped. It came down to two, Cody Martin and Peter Brown, from different firms. That's the introduction we have to the mass chaos and intense evil that is about to
