Der Akt des Zweifelns wird hier einer philosophischtheologischen Analyse unterzogen. Die Infragestellung des inhaltlichen Gehaltes von Glaubensüberzeugungen bewertet die Gegenwartsgesellschaft als Tugend. Auch innerhalb der Theologie gewinnt der Zweifel zunehmend an Relevanz, wird aber überwiegend immer noch als Gefährdung des Glaubens wahrgenommen. In Auseinandersetzung mit philosophischen und theologischen Positionen – z. B. Augustinus, Thomas von Aquin, Hegel oder Kierkegaard – wird in dieser Arbeit dem vermeintlichen Widerspruch zwischen Glauben und Zweifeln auf den Grund gegangen und die theologische Legitimität iterativen Zweifelns aufgezeigt.
