"An awesome page-turner that left me breathless!!!" – 5-Star Review
Reporter C.J. Pulaski and small-town police chief Nate Cole mix like oil and water.
After being fired from a prestigious Seattle newspaper, C.J. returns to her hometown of Paradise Falls in disgrace. Rock bottom is her new reality, and she'll stop at nothing to find her next big story to reclaim her career. Desperate for a lead, she turns to her father’s Trench Coat Brigade—a quirky crew of geriatric amateur sleuths with a knack for solving mysteries, meddling, and matchmaking.
Nate left the chaos of the LAPD after the death of his partner, seeking solace in the slow pace of Paradise Falls. As chief of police, the quiet life has been a balm to his wounded soul—until a skeleton is unearthed, thrusting him into a decades-old murder mystery. Between managing the persistent meddling of the Trench Coat Brigade and the fiery, relentless reporter on his heels, Nate’s life is anything but peaceful.
C.J. has always been laser-focused on journalism. Love and commitment have never been part of her plan. But as she and Nate team up to solve the mystery, sparks fly, and she begins to question everything she thought she wanted.
When faced with the choice between the career she’s fought for and the man who makes her heart race, will C.J. risk it all for love?

For over thirty years, I’ve stood behind the lens of a camera, capturing the heart of agriculture—wading through cow pastures, rice paddies, and sprawling orchards. As a photojournalist specializing in agriculture, I’ve told stories rooted in the land, its people, and their passion.
Now, I channel that same storytelling spirit into deeply emotional, small-town contemporary romance. My novels weave themes of love, community, and sometimes, the agricultural threads that have shaped my own journey. Some of you may remember me as Kate Curran, but these days, all my books are published under my name, Kathy Coatney.
In addition to romance, I write the nonfiction children’s series From the Farm to the Table and Dad’s Girls, celebrating the connection between farm life and the food we enjoy.
When I’m not writing, you’ll likely find me mountain biking, cross-country skiing, strength training, or out for a jog—though tortoise pace might be a more accurate description!
