Only 4 stars because of the overly contrived plot devices and the unbalanced pace. The first two thirds are too slow and there is too much over-the-top action at the end. A schoolboy refuelling a plane in flight by standing on the wing is just ridiculous.

I, too, was hoping for another Jackdaws type, but KF snuck in some predictable romance. Good story, but I was hoping for more action and plot twists. A good leisure read.

Perfectly portrayed thrills and action however might over dramatic on certain plot. An interesting read for those who are seeking thriller plot and WWII setting.
About the author
Ken Follett was born in Cardiff, Wales. Barred from watching films and television by his parents, he developed an early interest in reading thanks to a local library. After studying philosophy at University College London, he became involved in centre-left politics, entering into journalism soon after.
