I really enjoyed the evocative descriptions of countryside, seasonal changes and river life , especially since I grew up in the Thames Valley. The language used is wonderful and the characters of Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger are well developed. However, the plot is weak and failed to hold my attention.

One of the very best children's books ever written. The author's prose and poetry in his descriptions of nature are compelling and deeply spiritual, and obviously stem from his lifelong acquaintanceship with the English Countryside.

About the author
Kenneth Grahame (1859–1932) was a Scottish writer best known as the author of The Wind in the Willows. He spent much of his childhood along the water, first on Loch Fyne in Scotland and then along the River Thames in a small village in southern England. It was here that his love for boating grew—a passion reflected in one of the most famous passages of The Wind in the Willows: “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing—absolutely nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
