About this ebook

In the far future, humanity began to search the stars, sending out vast spaceships that would take generations to reach their goals. In the depths of space they encountered the Ildiran empire - apparently the galaxy's only other intelligent civilization. The Ildirans came to Earth and passed on the knowledge of their stardrive, allowing humanity to expand to the stars.

Almost two hundred years after that first contact, there are human colonies proliferating through the galaxy. As Mankind seizes the future, danger comes from the past, for two human archaeologists glean forbidden knowledge from the ruins of a dead world. Once, the insect-like Klikiss ruled the stars. Now, only their robot servants remain, guardians of a terrible technology - the Klikiss Torch, which has the power to create suns. Now, Humanity prepares to flex its new found muscle and activate the Torch for the first time in millennia, but there are reasons the Klikiss empire fell, and a train of events is about to be set in motion, that will change the universe...

Good read. This was my second reading as I have read this and up to book 3 years ago. Picked it up again along with the whole series as they were very cheap, so I could read the all. Of course I had to start again. I'm glad I did, it's grabbed my attention again and I'm looking forward to starting book two. Don't listen to the bad reviews. This is a good series.

I guess you get what you pay for. Quite pedestrian sci-fi. It's not awful, but it's only one notch up from Star Trek. Look for Peter F Hamilton instead and prepare to be much more impressed. I will try book two in Saga... but only because it's pretty cheap. I'll let you know what I think. update: I'm now way into book three. It seems I was a little hasty with my initial appraisal. Which goes to show... never judge a series on the stength of the first book. My word 'pedestrian' still stands, but since I'm continuing to read on; it is (must be) enjoyable and compelling - keep reading sci-fi dudes!

Utterly amazing!! I have just finished the second book. I am currently in the middle of my GCSE exams, and have had to restrain myself from buying the third book, as these books are far too captivating. These books are real page-turners and I cannot recommend them enough, as they have allowed me to rediscover my love for reading.
