This was the first book I've read by Khaled Hosseini. His beautiful and honest writing gave me a greater appreciation for relationships - their complexity and value - and time - how it can heal or prolong pain. "I now know that some people feel unhappiness the way others feel love: privately, intensely, And without recourse."

Khaled's writing is intriguing. Every scene you read makes you feel you are a mute spectator inside it. However this book holds some flaws by adding detailed stories of the lives of characters such as Idris, Timur, Markos, Thalia. Main characters of the story are Abdullah & Pati. We did learn about Pari's life but there was no description of Abdullah's life after Pari was given away. But being a KH book you can't miss reading this too. Another masterstroke by him.

If you are familiar with Hosseini's other works, this book will not surprise you. The pacing, the character development is incredible. Hosseini is a master of storytelling and proof of that is abundant throughout the book. Only thing it lacks is enough emotion. Sure, there are parts where you are left short of words, but it never tugs enough strings at your heart. And the time jumping is frustrating at times, as are few side story lines like of Markos Varvaris. But overall it is a good read.
