I received this book for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This is the first book in the series that I have read, and I have to say it was easy to pick up the story even though it is an ongoing series. There are times that I do that on purpose, pick up a book in the middle of the series to see if I can easily pick up the thread of the story. Generally speaking if I can, then I read it from the beginning. After a lifetime (47 years) of reading fantasy novels (I have literally read THOUSANDS of them), this author has a truly unique protagonist. So many books (especially now) have strong female protagonists, and it was a joy to read about one that truly stands alone. She is not perfect, at times she is downright unlikable, and yet she is completely compelling. This story makes you CARE about her and what happens to her. A couple of truly surprise twists, the strong female protagonist, and page after page of action made this a fun and exciting read!! Highly recommended.
