આજે નરેન્દ્ર દામોદર દાસ મોદી કોઈ અજ્ઞાત હસ્તી નથી રહી ગયા; પૂરો દેશ એમની પ્રશસ્તિના ગાયન ગાઈ રહ્યો છે અને એમની સિદ્ધિઓના લોકગીત વંચાઈ રહ્યા છે. ભારતમાં ઊંડી રુચિ રાખવાવાળા દેશોમાં પણ એમની નવી મહત્તા સ્વીકાર કરવામાં આવી રહી છે. ભારતના પ્રધાનમંત્રી બન્યા પછી તો એમની લોકપ્રિયતા ખૂબ ઝડપથી વધી છે. એમને એક મહાનાયકના રૃપમાં જોવામાં આવી રહ્યા છે. એમના માટે પણ આ એક કડી પરીક્ષાનો સમય છે કે, કેવી રીતે રાષ્ટ્રની સામે ઉભરતા પડકારોથી પાર ઉતરશે. પરંતુ મોદી માટે આ કોઈ નવી વાત નથી, કેમ કે તેઓ તો બાળપણથી જ સતત પડકારોથી ઝઝૂમતા આવ્યા છે. એ જોવાનું છે કે, કઈ પ્રકારે તેઓ કરોડો દેશવાસીઓની કામનાઓને યોગ્ય દિશા આપીને એમની અપેક્ષાઓ પર ખરા ઉતરી શકશે તથા પોતાની ચૂંટણી પૂર્વના વચનો પણ પૂરા કરી શકશે. કેટલાય જટિલ પ્રશ્ન પણ છે તથા એમના સંભવિત નિરાકરણ અને ઉત્તર પણ; કેમ કે સન્ 2001 થી; જ્યારે એમણે પહેલીવાર ગુજરાતની જવાબદારી સંભાળી હતી, એમને ક્યારેય પાછળ વળીને જોવાની જરૃર નથી પડી. તેઓ પોતાના નાગરિકોની આશાનું કેન્દ્ર થઈ ગયા હતા, જ્યારે ચાર વાર એમણે આ પ્રાન્તનું સુશાસન ચલાવ્યું. એમના પ્રથમ અને અંતિમ કાર્ય-સત્ર તો નાના જ રહ્યા, પણ ગુજરાતી જનતાનો વિશ્વાસ જીતવામાં અત્યંત સફળ રહ્યા છે
