About this ebook

Gene Caldwell has given up on love. After two messy divorces and countless failed relationships, he’s sixty-one, he’s single, and he’s done trying.

Terry Hanson still believes in love, but after burying two partners in thirty years, he’s prepared to spend the rest of his life alone. Even if the nights get cold, he refuses to go through that heartbreak a third time.

At a mutual friend’s wedding reception, the two men bond over their loneliness and cynicism. They spend the evening commiserating… and the rest of the night pretending they’ll be able to walk away from each other in the morning.

Neither can help coming back for more. They can't get enough of each other’s touch, the affection they’ve both been starving for, and the companionship they both crave and fear.

If they lower their decades-old defenses, they’ll risk more heartbreak. If they don’t lower those defenses, though, they’ll miss out on love that was worth waiting half a century to find.

This 97,000 word Las Palmas Fencing Club novel is the sequel to The Master Will Appear, and can be read as a standalone.

Another beautifully emotional book by L.A. Witt! I could not put this book down, and before I knew it, I was halfway through. I was excited when I learned that Gene was getting his own story. I've loved him since book 1 and knew there was so much more to him. He's 61 and recently single yet again. He's tired of people leaving him and feeling like he isn't enough, so he swears off love. Terry is in his mid-50s and has already had to bury 2 partners in his lifetime, so even while knowing love is real, he also decides to swear off love. When they met and clicked so well, they ended up in bed they decided, "Why let the fun times stop?" They were both on the same page of not wanting a relationship but eventually learn that we don't choose who we fall for even when we set out on just having a physical relationship. Sometimes feelings get thrown in and it's too powerful to stop. Gene and Terry tried to stop it, but life apart didn't make sense despite fear, so they jumped in again together.

About the author

L.A. Witt is a romance and suspense author who has at last given up the exciting nomadic lifestyle of the military spouse (read: her husband finally retired). She now resides in Pittsburgh, where the potholes are determined to eat her car and her cats are endlessly taunted by a disrespectful squirrel named Moose. In her spare time, she can be found painting in her art room or destroying her voice at a Pittsburgh Penguins game.
