Just finished reading it on Libby, my goodness... This is probably the best telling of this type of story that I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing, and the only story I can think of to fit into the Military Urban Fantasy subgenre that I didn't even realize existed until this book. I am SO happy to find it available for free here. I definitely have to read the rest of Correia's stuff. So far he's batting 4 for 4 between this and his Grimnoire series (which, by the way, really deserved a better description). The only faults I can find to nitpick about are 1. an annoying lack of contractions, 2. many of the normal head scratchers of the genre like how "the government" has the funds and resources to hide the supernatural from the public on top of everything else they've got going on, and 3. the things you seem to need to include to sell a story these days. Specifically sex. At least Correia keeps it off screen. I could keep talking but I'd better stop here. It's 6am now and even serious novel addicts like me need to sleep sometime.

Fantastic writing, epic story, nail-biting action, and a totally relatable protagonist. Read it multiple times and listened to the audiobook. Can't stop coming back for more Owen Z. Pitt!

Larry Correia's world-building, character crafting, storytelling, action scenes, and technical details are all phenomenally on point. Monster Hunter International was my first exposure to Mr Correia's writing. I cannot recommend anything he writes highly enough. A rollicking good adventure from word one. You will laugh, and you will cry. You will also have extreme difficulty putting it down. Enjoy.
