A very emotional saga of loss and reclamation, with football serving as the vehicle to uplift & restore the lives of an entire state. As epic and soaring as this tale is, it would have benefitted enormously by including photos and images of the desolation left in Tuscaloosa in the wake of this monstrous cataclysm. As a former Alabama student & Tuscaloosa resident I can tell you the havoc it wreaked was beyond comprehension. Although I was no longer a student at Alabama in 2011 and was fortunate enough to be spared the horror of living through that day in April 2011, I returned to the city in the days afterward to help in the relief efforts. The scene was beyond description. That is why photos should have been included in this book. Although the twister descended from the heavens on that day, make no mistake about it– This was a scythe from Hell; reaping and slicing mercilessly with frightening efficiency. I also contend that more in-depth profiles & interviews with coaches and players should have been included in this book also. Much of the book reads like a newspaper report with merely the actions of key characters being reported. More emotional mining would've been nice.
