This book is a great reflection of how tough being fourteen can be. If you've read 11,12 and 13 you are familiar with Lauren Myracle's fabulous work. Some of the content like dating and boys is not exactly appropriate for an eleven year old to be reading. Besides the dating parts of this book I have to say this a great book about family and friendship.

Personally, I think THIRTEEN PLUS ONE is a great book. It teaches about the meaning of honesty and forgiveness as well as friendship and responsibility. The book is most definitely a page-turner, no questions asked. It has a great hook and plenty of suspense (not to mention the incredibly ironic twist at the end). It has the variety of the everyday topics that a normal 14-year-old goes through in her life. I think that this story is great for girls around this age to read. It teaches lessons and, more importantly, shows how to deal with tough situations.
Another reason I loved this book is because of the setting. It is set on a sunny beach in South Carolina and filled with descriptions that made me feel right at home. Cinnamon, Winnie’s best friend, is a great character. She knows what to say at the right moments, and she seems like a complete joy to be around. Even through her sarcasm, she’s a funny girl who’s not afraid of anything. I admire that. I love the page-turning effect of this story but I don’t like how one subject could stretch out so long over multiple chapters. It can get a little boring. But, once the irony kicks in, it’s fantastic!
