About this eBook

Now a knight errant, Alanna goes on a quest for a legendary jewel in this fourth and final book in Tamora Pierce’s Margaret A. Edwards Award–winning young adult series—now with a new look!

Having achieved her dream of becoming the first female knight errant, Alanna of Trebond finds herself at loose ends. She has already triumphed in countless bloody battles, and her adventures are considered legendary. Perhaps being a knight errant is not all that Alanna needs… But Alanna must push her uncertainty aside when she is tasked with the impossible.

She must recover the Dominion Jewel, a legendary gem that has enormous power for good…in the right hands. And Alanna must work fast. Her archenemy, Duke Roger, is back and more formidable than ever, putting Tortall in great danger. As she puts her hard-won skills to use, Alanna discovers through fierce combat and ceaseless searching that she can make a future worthy of her mythic past—both as a warrior and as a woman.

Growing up as a tomboy, I could really relate to Alanna and her feelings of female inferiority. As the story progresses, Alanna is able to accept herself as a woman without losing the strong parts of herself she develops. Not only is this series great for maturing girls looking for a place in the world, but it's full of excitement, magic, sword fights, love and tragedy. First read it at school when I was 12, now I'm 30 and own the series and still dust it off every now and then for a feel good read.

I first got hooked to Pierce's books through the immortals series. I loved the story so much I needed to read all of the other Tortallen series books and I'm glad I did. I really do wish there were more to read but it's what keeps me rereading all of her books

This series has stuck with me through the years. Even as an adult I keep coming back to reread the adventures. Amazing!
