Per molti secoli sono state ritenute interessanti solo le opere e i libri degli uomini, mentre le donne sono state addestrate a non avere talento. Sono state silenziate, dimenticate, messe fuori. La soluzione ora è ricostruire l'intero campo su cui si gioca la partita della cultura. La tesi di fondo di questo libro è: come smettere di considerare il mondo solo in termini maschili. Uscire da questa "naturalezza" e da questa "normalità" pregiudiziali non è un obiettivo polemico, ma un'opportunità critica di crescita e di confronto, anche interculturale. Per smettere di considerare il mondo e la cultura solo in termini maschili non si tratta di guardare il paesaggio culturale del Novecento, per esempio, aggiungendo anche le donne, né di ripetere la logica dell'harem, dell'aiuola, o del club per soli uomini. Bensí di far contare la presenza e l'importanza delle donne, anche quando sono state ammutolite o oscurate.
