this was such a good book! i wish they said more about Walter, he was my favorite. i love these kind of books, with all the adorable romance in them. the only reason for the 4 stars, was because the ending made me cry big freaking alligator tears. i hoped in my heart they would meet, but i kinda felt this would happen, not to spoil ❤️😭

I won't go into too much detail about all that I disliked about this book. I like the author's other books (Banded series), and this seemed like a unique idea. The author tried, but I have to say I'm glad it was free. I gave it a chance and finished it. The cruel ending is what took it up to three stars. It was full of racism, both benevolent and blatant. Look up benevolent (and implicit) sexism, as well as implicit racism, of you don't know what they are. Then think how those apply to this story. I got bored. I was annoyed. I liked it less and less the further I got. It's difficult to pull off writing fiction in first person successfully, and this book didn't make it. You have to find a way to distinctly separate the characters. You have to create a distinct, believable reality but describe it through one character's perspective within that world. The author's bias bled through the pages to the extent that it took away from the integrity of the story and infected all the characters. It felt like a dull dream from the mind of one person. Also, just to throw it out there, your relationship is definitely not healthy of one person vows to "fix" the other. People don't fix other people in relationships. They work together and strengthen each other. Obviously this is the story of two kids who care and just haven't learned that yet.

It seems like every other love story but the end is so different. So sad yet a happy one because of the love portraited. Definitely a huge plot twist i most definitely did not expect. Sure i expected them to meet and their love to last happily ever after, but we are talking about emotionally depressed people finally feeling wanted and loved and the end just raptured everything. In my head im just gonna think that maybe he woke up in a hospital bed with lacey by his side. Im eternally an oliver + lacey fan
